Club History

Club Rose Bay has a long and storied history in the local area, going back over a century. The Club was first formed by a group of WWI veterans in 1919 and found a permanent home some twenty years later. The original building Kent Hall, which was a sick bay for the HMAS Tingira which berthed in Rose Bay.

By 1945 it had been outgrown, and funds were raised to demolish, relocate and re-erect Monash Memorial Hall and billiard room from Hyde Park. The new club was established in 1947, becoming Rose Bay RSL in 1951.

The building has undergone a number of renovations, including the development of an RSL sub-branch, but its historic significance remains, as evidenced by the recently reopened HMAS Tingira Memorial Park, which honours those who served on the ship so many years ago.

Ode of Remembrance

The Ode plays at Club Rose Bay at 6pm daily to honour and respect those that gave their lives to defend our country. Please mark a respectful silence when you hear the poem being read out across the speakers at the club.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
