Club History

The site of the current Club has a long and storied history in the local area.  A small group of local WWI veterans began meeting on this site, firstly in the Kent Hall, previously the sick bay for the Navy training ship, HMAS Tingira, berthed at Rose Bay.

Needing larger facilities, the Monash Hut was purchased in 1945 and relocated from Hyde Park to Rose Bay. This building was named in honour of Australian General Sir John Monash. Recognition of his legacy continues in the Monash Hall, the war memorial preserved on the first floor of the building.  In 1947, a club was established on the site and in 1951 this became the Rose Bay RSL Club which continues as such today.

The land and the memorial, protected through the Rose Bay Reserve Trust, stand as a powerful reminder of the proud military history of this site and the responsibility we carry to preserve the legacy.

Ode of Remembrance

The Ode plays at Club Rose Bay at 6pm daily to honour and respect those that gave their lives to defend our country. Please mark a respectful silence when you hear the poem being read out across the speakers at the club.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
